North Carolina-born visionary who built Dreamville Records into one of the most respected independent labels in hip-hop.

BIOGRAPHY

Jermaine Lamarr Cole, known as J. Cole, was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After signing with Jay-Z's Roc Nation and securing a deal with Interscope, Cole leveraged his position to establish Dreamville Records as a semi-independent label with its own roster, creative direction, and business infrastructure. Dreamville has grown into one of the most critically and commercially successful independent label operations in modern hip-hop, with artists like Bas, Ari Lennox, EarthGang, and others. Cole's approach — building with loyalty, developing artists fully, and maintaining creative sovereignty — is a masterclass in long-term independent brand architecture.
